Mint flavoured toothpaste can leave a fresh clean feeling in our mouth after brushing. However, it is not uncommon to hear from some of our patients that they do not like to use toothpaste because it is too “spicy” or minty. This can lead them to be less enthusiastic about brushing their teeth.
To make toothbrushing a more pleasant experience for your child, we have compiled a list of different flavoured toothpastes as an alternative to mint.
These are toothpastes with low-fluoride content which are appropriate for children 18 months to 6 years.
These are toothpastes with standard fluoride content which are appropriate for children over the ages of 6 years.
Children under 6 years old with moderate to high risk of decay may be required to use a smear of these toothpastes for the higher concentration of fluoride.
Factors that indicate an increased risk of decay include poor oral hygiene, high sugar/starch diet, active decay, inadequate fluoride exposure, low saliva flow, family history of decay, orthodontic appliances, enamel defect conditions, special health care needs, and certain medications.
